Short answer (checked 2026-10-02): fal.ai is a strong default for speed and for new closed models, so many teams keep it for those. Move a workload off fal.ai when price is the issue: Runware charges $0.0038 per FLUX.1 dev image versus $0.025 per megapixel on fal.ai, DeepInfra sells FLUX.2 [pro] at $0.015 versus $0.03, and ModelsLab turns open-model usage into a flat $149/month. Outside price, Replicate has a larger catalogue and Black Forest Labs is the direct source for FLUX pro.

Provider notes

Keep fal.ai for

fal.ai’s catalogue of 1,000+ models covers the newest closed image and video models, and its serverless platform is built for low latency (the “up to 10x faster” figure is fal.ai’s own claim). If those two points drive your product, an alternative will mostly save money on the open-model share of your traffic.

Replicate

Replicate prices FLUX.1 the same as fal.ai, but its catalogue is much larger (Cloudflare cites 50,000+ models) and you can deploy your own model with Cog. Cloudflare closed its acquisition of Replicate on 2025-12-01.

Runware

Runware lists FLUX.1 dev at $0.0038 per 1024x1024 image, about one-sixth of fal.ai’s price, and its registry has 400K+ models. It is the first place to look when cost per image matters most.

Black Forest Labs

For FLUX pro, Kontext and FLUX 3, the official API costs the same as fal.ai (for example $0.04 for FLUX1.1 [pro]). Go direct if you only use BFL models.

WaveSpeedAI

WaveSpeed sells many of the same models: FLUX.1 dev $0.012, Kontext dev $0.025, FLUX.2 dev $0.012 per image. It is a like-for-like hosted alternative with lower prices on several open models.

DeepInfra and Together AI

Both are LLM inference platforms that also serve Flux. They suit apps that need text and images on one bill rather than a large image catalogue.

If you want full control of the pipeline (ComfyUI graphs, custom schedulers, your own weights), run it yourself. Modal bills per second for Python functions; RunPod rents pods from $0.34/hour (RTX 4090, Community Cloud).

ModelsLab

ModelsLab (which runs this site) hosts 10,000+ open models, including FLUX.1 dev, Kontext dev, SDXL and community checkpoints, on its own GPUs. Its $149/month Open Source Unlimited plan removes the per-call charge on those models, with 15 parallel generations; Basic ($21) and Standard ($47) plans are call-based. It also allows NSFW models when you set the safety checker off. It loses to fal.ai on new closed models and to BFL on FLUX pro prices, and has no free plan.

How we checked

We read each price from the vendor’s own page on 2026-10-02. Some fal.ai pages show a different price in the page description than in the price box; we used the price box. We did not run latency benchmarks.

FAQ

What is cheaper than fal.ai for FLUX.1 dev?
On 2026-10-02, fal.ai charged $0.025 per megapixel for FLUX.1 dev. Runware listed $0.0038 per 1024x1024 image, DeepInfra $0.009 at 25 steps and WaveSpeed $0.012. Replicate matched fal at $0.025. ModelsLab works out to $0.0047 only if you use all 10,000 calls of its $47/month plan.
Is anything faster than fal.ai?
fal.ai says its inference engine is up to 10x faster, and we did not benchmark latency for this page. If latency is your main need, test fal.ai, WaveSpeed and Runware with your own prompts and image sizes.
Which fal.ai alternative is best for closed models like FLUX pro and Kontext?
Black Forest Labs' own API: FLUX1.1 [pro] $0.04 and Kontext [pro] $0.04 per image, the same as fal.ai. Replicate, Runware and WaveSpeed charge the same list price. For FLUX.2 [pro], DeepInfra is cheaper at $0.015.
Is there a fal.ai alternative with a flat monthly price?
ModelsLab's Open Source Unlimited plan costs $149/month with unlimited generations on the open models it hosts (15 parallel generations). Closed and partner models are billed separately. It has no free plan.
Which fal.ai alternative lets me run my own model code?
Modal (per-second GPU billing, L40S $0.000542/s) or RunPod (GPU pods from $0.34/hour for an RTX 4090 on Community Cloud).
